Our History

First organized in the spring of 1958 a couple of Westinghouse employees contacted the local company management with a request to purchase a trace of land for the purpose of building a swim club.  Prior to this idea of a local swim club, residents were obligated to swim in the Delaware River, Long Hook Creek (Sandy Bottom) and the Westinghouse Intake Canal in Essington. These locations were unsanitary, dangerous and many accidents occurred in their unsupervised activity!  With the approval of Westinghouse management a proposal to purchase 5.3 acres on Chippewa Street at a cost of $15,000. was approved. The main pool is 25-yard by 25-meter six lane “L” shaped pool. There is a 12’ diving well for the 1 & 3 meter diving boards. There is also a water slide located in the 5 foot section of the pool.  Additionally, there is a baby pool with both sunny and shaded areas.  A full service snack bar can provide lunch or dinner for the entire family and a large picnic grove for your weekend barbecue. The remaining areas of the Club have something for everyone: basketball, volleyball and horseshoe pits should keep the young-at-heart entertained for hours
