Our History

Established in the spring of 1958, Tinicum Township Swim Club was founded through the initiative of several Westinghouse employees who approached local management with a proposal to purchase land for the development of a community swim facility. Prior to the creation of the club, local residents relied on swimming in the Delaware River, Long Hook Creek (commonly known as “Sandy Bottom”), and the Westinghouse Intake Canal in Essington—areas that were often unsafe, unsanitary, and unsupervised.

With the support of Westinghouse management, a proposal was approved to acquire 5.3 acres on Chippewa Street at a cost of $15,000, laying the foundation for what would become a longstanding community asset.

Today, the club features a 25-yard by 25-meter, six-lane “L”-shaped main pool, along with a 12-foot diving well equipped with both 1-meter and 3-meter diving boards. A water slide is located in the 5-foot section of the pool, providing added enjoyment for members. For younger children, a dedicated baby pool offers both sunny and shaded areas.

In addition to its aquatic facilities, the club offers a full-service snack bar serving lunch and dinner options, as well as a spacious picnic grove ideal for family gatherings and weekend barbecues. Recreational amenities throughout the grounds—including basketball, volleyball, and horseshoe pits—ensure there is something for members of all ages to enjoy.
